Downloading & installing liveCaster
To run
liveCaster, your site must either be connected to the Multicast Internet
(aka. "MBone"),
or use liveCaster's built-in
multicast tunneling mechanism
to connect to the Multicast Internet via a
"liveGate" server.
Alternatively, liveCaster can be used on a local-area network (LAN)
(because most LANs support multicast).
Supported platforms
liveCaster is currently available for
Windows
&
Unix
Windows
Download and run the application
liveCasterSetup.exe.
This is a self-extracting installer.
(Alternatively, you can run
lcServiceSetup.exe,
which installs a version that runs as a
Windows Service.)
Notes on the Windows version
- For liveCaster to work correctly, your machine's TCP/IP stack must support IP multicast.
The standard (default) Microsoft stack works OK, but other stacks might not.
- If you're connected to the Internet via other than a dialup connection
(e.g., you're using an Ethernet or other LAN), then you should completely remove the "Dial-Up Adapter" entries from the "Network" control panel.
Windows 95's multicast implementation (at least, with the standard Microsoft TCP/IP stack) can get confused
if dial-up networking is installed, but unused.
- The Windows 95 kernel has a bug
that can cause Winsock programs (such as liveCaster) to leak memory.
An optional patch is available from Microsoft to fix this bug.
